Carey is a partner at Guyton Thuente PA and has been representing immigrants since 2007. Carey loves getting to know each client on an individual basis and learning about their immigration story. She is an experienced and passionate advocate who works closely with her clients to gain a thorough understanding of their case and goals before deciding on the best legal path to pursue. Carey provides personal attention to each case and provides her clients with their options, the expected outcomes, and the strategy she recommends. She enjoys working on complex cases and coming up with creative solutions to help her clients navigate the immigration system.
Carey has experience representing employers including large and small businesses, non-profits, and religious organizations in filing temporary and permanent visa petitions for critical employees, including: H-1B, H-3, L-1, E-3, O-1, TN, J-1, R-1, I-360, Labor Certifications, Audits, Supervised Recruitment, and Schedule A.
Carey also assists clients with spouse, parent, sibling and child petitions, Consular Processing, Humanitarian Reinstatement, Humanitarian Parole, Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), and Naturalization. She assists family and employment-based clients with consular processing and negotiates with embassies and consulates worldwide on challenging cases.
In addition to her law practice, Carey enjoys working with law students. She works as a JD Compass Strategist and formerly as an Adjunct Professor for the University of St. Thomas School of Law. As a JD Compass Strategist, she mentors students in their bar preparation and assists them in their career search. Carey also taught as an Adjunct Professor for the Mentor Externship Class, in which she covered topics related to professional development.
In her free time Carey enjoys spending time with her husband and four kids. She also enjoys spending time up north, hiking and being out on the lake. Carey is an avid scrabble player and hopes to find more time to travel internationally.
